Plain-English summary
Polaris Industries, Inc. is recalling approximately 11,560 model year 2005 "900 Fusion," "900 RMK," and "900 Switchback" snowmobiles. The recall involves specific model numbers including S05PL8DSD, S05PM8DS(A)(B), S05PN8DS, S05PS8DS, S05MP8DS(A)(B)(C), and S05PL8DS(A)(B)(C). The model and serial number identification decal is located on the right front side of the tunnel.
The recall is due to a defect in the snowmobile wiring harness routing. The harness may be routed in a way that could disconnect the engine stop switch and the throttle safety switch connector. If this connector becomes unplugged, these safety switches will no longer function, which could pose a possible crash hazard. The keyed ignition switch will continue to function and shut down the vehicle when the key is in the OFF position. Additionally, the thumb warmer and right-hand warmer could become unplugged under these conditions. Polaris has received one report of the switches becoming disconnected, but no injuries have been reported.
These snowmobiles were sold nationwide by Polaris dealers from August 2004 through February 2005 for between $8,882 and $10,999. Consumers should contact their Polaris dealer to schedule a free repair, which involves installing a jumper wire and securing the existing wiring harness. Polaris has also notified consumers directly about this recall. For more information, consumers can call Polaris at (800) 765-2747 or visit www.polarisindustries.com.
