Plain-English summary
Home Interiors & Gifts Inc. is recalling approximately 300,000 units of the Home Interiors Fundraising Candle Tin Series. The recall involves 6.5-ounce, lidded silver candle tins that are 3¼ inches wide and 2 inches tall. The tins feature fragrance name labels on the side, with available scents including Sandalwood, Suede, Mulberry, Seaside Breeze, Hawaiian Delight, Carrot Cake, Fresh Peach, Baked Apple Pie, Vanilla Crème, and Lemon Torte.
The recall was initiated because the candle flames could flare up out of the tin container during use, posing a fire and burn hazard. There have been ten reports of candles flaring up, which resulted in some surfaces being scorched. No injuries have been reported.
The affected candle tins were sold for $8 through Home Interiors' fundraising programs and direct sales associates from April 2005 through May 3, 2005. Consumers should stop using the recalled candles immediately. To return the tins for a free replacement candle tin of the same fragrance and a fragranced body care product, consumers should visit www.homeinteriors.com or call (972) 695-1061 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday.
