The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and The Elegant Kids 2000 Inc. of Los Angeles, Calif., are recalling about 34,500 Soother Baby Pacifiers. The recalled pacifiers measure about 2-1/2 inches in length and 2 inches in width. They are blue, green, yellow, and pink with a tan tinted nipple, a curved plastic handle, and a shield. The words "SOOTHER BABY PACIFIERS" are printed on the back of the cardboard packaging, which has a clear blister-bubble cover.
The pacifiers are banned under federal law because they failed federal safety tests. During these tests, the nipples separated from the base, which can pose a choking hazard to infants and small children. No injuries have been reported.
The recalled pacifiers were sold at gift shops, discount retail stores, and various Hispanic commercial retailers nationwide from March 2000 through January 2005 for between $0.50 and $1.00. Consumers should return the recalled pacifiers to the store where purchased to receive a full refund.
