Plain-English summary
Norco Products Ltd. is recalling approximately 80,000 units of the Adams Trail-a-Bike and Adams Slipstream bicycle attachments. The recall involves specific models including the Starter, Folder, Shifter, Shocker, Ultimate Tandem, Deluxe Folder, Me 2, and Original. These products are designed for children ages 4 to 7 and attach to an adult bicycle to create a tandem setup. The attachments were sold at independent bicycle stores nationwide from January 1996 through October 2004 for prices between $125 and $295.
The recall is due to a defect in the hardware used in the assembly of the universal hitch. This hardware may come loose, causing the attachment to separate from the lead bicycle. Such a separation could lead to serious injury or death to the rider of the bicycle attachment. Norco Products has received two reports of hardware falling out of the hitch assembly and one report of a minor injury.
Consumers should immediately stop using the product. They should contact their local bicycle dealer to arrange for an inspection and to receive a no-charge repair kit to be installed for free.
