What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Plain-English summary

Avon Products Inc. is recalling approximately 333,000 Snowman Nightlight Diffusers sold in the United States. The product consists of a white plastic nightlight base with a porcelain snowman attachment and winter holly scented oil. The diffusers were sold through independent Avon sales representatives and the Avon website from August 2003 through December 2003 for $10 to $15.

The recall was issued because the scented oil can drip, causing the nightlight base to crack or break. This damage can expose electrical wires or metal parts inside the unit, creating a potential electrical shock hazard. Additionally, if the nightlight breaks, there is a risk of cuts. Avon has received 33 reports of the nightlight base breaking, including reports of electrical shorts. One complaint involved a consumer who was scratched when the nightlight broke.

Consumers can obtain a free replacement nightlight base that will not crack or break from the oil. Known purchasers are being sent direct mail notification of this recall. Consumers can also call Cosmos Gift Corporation toll-free at (866) 348-9749 anytime to order a replacement nightlight base.
