Kearney-National, Hapco Division, is recalling 118 Internal Halyard Flagpoles. The recall is due to a safety hazard where a partially crimped sleeve on the flagpole can allow the metal cable to pull through. This defect can cause the loop to release, allowing a seven-pound counterweight to drop to the ground when the assembly is raised without a flag attached.
The company is aware of three incidents where the counterweight fell, with one incident resulting in a minor injury. The flagpoles were sold at hardware and flag stores nationwide between August 2003 and October 2003 for between $1,000 and $1,500.
Hapco is directly notifying consumers who purchased these flagpoles about the recall and providing free repair kits. For more information, consumers can contact Hapco at (800) 368-7171 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday.
