Plain-English summary
Salton, Inc. is recalling approximately 16,700 Timex Outdoor Appliance Timers. The recall was initiated because the timers have reverse polarity in the wiring, which allows current to flow to the attached appliance even when the timer is turned off. This defect creates a risk of electric shock for consumers.
The recalled timers are designed to be mounted on a wall and plugged into a 120V outlet. They feature an outlet on the underside for the appliance plug and allow consumers to program the device to turn lights and appliances on or off at desired intervals. The word "Timex" is printed on the front door and the dial inside. A label on the back includes the words "Model Number: 12/810."
The timers were sold at selected Lowe's stores nationwide from November 2003 through December 2003 for about $20 each. One incident has been reported where a consumer received an electrical shock. Consumers should contact Salton to receive a prepaid shipping label to return the recalled timer. Salton will send the consumer a replacement timer. Consumers can call Salton toll free at (800) 919-3101 between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or email Salton at [email protected].
