What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (shattering glass) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria in the rubric.

Plain-English summary

Pier 1 Imports, of Fort Worth, Texas, is recalling about 9,200 glass candleholders. The recalled product is a Giant Champagne Glass-Shaped Floating Candleholder that is approximately 17-1/4 inches high by 13 inches in diameter. The green candleholders were made in Spain and have a price sticker on the bottom reading "SKU#1884160." The items were sold through Pier 1 Imports retail stores and online nationwide from January 2002 through May 2002 for about $25.

The recall was initiated because the candleholder can unexpectedly shatter, which poses a risk of cuts to consumers. Pier 1 has received two reports of the glass candleholder shattering, but no injuries have been reported.

Because the firm is no longer in business, a recall remedy is no longer available. Consumers should discard the product. For more information, consumers can call the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772 (TTY 301-595-7054).
