Plain-English summary

Discovery Toys, of Livermore, California, is recalling approximately 21,000 Up, Down & Around toddler maze toys, model #1612. The recall was initiated because the plastic tubes on the toy can break from the wooden base, releasing beads that pose a choking hazard to young children.

The recalled toys feature four circuit flexible wires coated in blue, orange, red, and yellow plastic tubes, sliding multi-colored shaped beads, and two abacuses attached to a wooden base. The toys measure 9 1/2 inches by 8 inches by 7 inches and use four suction cups to anchor to non-porous surfaces. Discovery Toys' Educational Consultants sold the toys nationwide from July 2001 to January 2002.

Discovery Toys has received nine reports of the tubes breaking, but no injuries have been reported. Consumers should stop using the toy immediately and contact Discovery Toys to receive a free replacement. Purchasers were sent direct mail notification of this recall.
