Leifheit International USA Inc. is recalling about 31,000 Pro Line apple slicers/corers. The recall is due to a hazard where the cutting blade can separate from the center-coring ring during use, which can cause cuts to consumers' hands and fingers. Leifheit has received two reports of the blades separating, resulting in minor cuts to the user's fingers.
The affected slicers/corers are made of shiny chrome metal with two handles, with "Leifheit" printed on the top of one handle. A symbol code on the underside shows a number and dot sequence indicating the date of manufacture. Products with a "1" or those with a "2" accompanied by one or two dots are included in the recall. These items were sold nationwide in houseware and gourmet cooking stores from January 2001 to July 2002 for about $18.
