Ziotek Extension Cords Recalled Due to Reversed Polarity Hazard

E-filliate Inc. is recalling Ziotek extension cords sold by Cyberguys because reversed polarity creates electric shock and electrocution risks.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (electric shock/electrocution) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the High severity criteria.

Plain-English summary

E-filliate Inc. is recalling approximately 30,000 Ziotek brand extension cords sold nationwide through Cyberguys catalogs and the Cyberguys website from January 2002 through March 2002. The recalled cords are black, one to two feet long, and manufactured in China. Single-receptacle cords have www.ziotek.com printed on the cord, while double-receptacle cords have "ZIO TEK" printed on the splitter. The letters "MSL" are imprinted on the three-pronged plug of the recalled units. Cords with a yellow "QC" label wrapped around them are not included in this recall.

The recall is being issued because the cords have reversed polarity, which presents electric shock and electrocution hazards to consumers. E-filliate has received one report of reverse polarity, but no injuries have been reported.

Consumers should unplug the cords immediately and call E-filliate at (800) 327-6703 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT, Monday through Friday, to receive a prepaid shipping label. Consumers can return the cord to select a free replacement or a full refund. Those who return the product will also receive a 10 percent discount on a Cyberguys product. Additional information is available at www.cyberguys.com.
