Plain-English summary

Trudeau Corp. is recalling approximately 20,000 fondue sets sold under the brand names "Distinction by Trudeau" and "Trudeau Fondue Set." The recalled products consist of blue or white metal fondue pots with a black plastic ring attached to the upper rim, which includes two handles. The sets sit on a black, four-legged stand that houses the burner.

The recall was initiated because the plastic ring with handles can crack during normal heating or cooling. This defect poses burn and fire hazards to consumers. Trudeau has received 30 reports of the plastic rings breaking, including one report of a consumer who was burned on the hand and reported fire damage to a rug.

The fondue sets were sold in retail stores nationwide, including Target, from October 2001 through January 2002 for between $20 and $40. Consumers should stop using the fondue sets immediately and contact Trudeau at 1-800-trudeau (800-878-3328) to receive a replacement fondue pot.
