Plain-English summary
Lifetime Hoan Corp. is recalling approximately 132,000 fondue sets sold under the Farberware and Roshco brand names. The recall involves only the burners included with these sets, not the entire fondue sets. The affected burners include alcohol burners that can produce high flames beyond the intended cooking surface and chafing fuel holders that could tip over as the fuel burns down.
These defects present potential fire and burn hazards to consumers. CPSC and Lifetime Hoan Corp. have received eight reports of burners producing high flames, but no injuries or property damage have been reported. The sets were sold at department, kitchen, and home stores nationwide from June 1999 through October 2000 for about $20.
Consumers should stop using the burners immediately and contact Lifetime Hoan Corp. to determine how to dispose of them. Owners of recalled alcohol burners will receive a $4 coupon for Sterno canned chafing fuel, while owners of specific chafing fuel holders (model 86702) will be sent a replacement holder. Consumers can contact the company at 516-683-6000, via email at [email protected], or by mail at P.O. Box 1854, Westbury, NY 11590.
