What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk of burn injuries to children from overheating plastic, which fits the rubric criterion for 'risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.'
Plain-English summary
Meijer Inc. is recalling approximately 5,000 'All That Glitters' light and glitter wands sold in Meijer stores in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio. The recall was initiated because the wands' batteries can short-circuit, causing the handles to become very hot and the plastic to melt, which poses a risk of burn injuries to children.
The affected wands are about 9 inches long with a gold-colored handle and a clear plastic ball on top filled with pink liquid and glitter. They operate with two AA batteries and were sold from January 2000 through January 2001 for between $2 and $4. Meijer has received two reports of the wands short-circuiting and becoming hot to the touch, but no injuries have been reported.
Consumers should take these wands away from children immediately and return them to the store where purchased for a refund. For more information, consumers can contact Meijer Inc. at (800) 543-3704 from the Midwest, or call collect at (616) 453-6711 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday from outside the Midwest.
