The kits, sold nationwide from July 2001 through December 2001 for about $4, include gel chips, wicks, glitter, glass holders, and plastic candleholders shaped like insects or flowers. The affected products have model numbers 3041 or 3042 on the box.

The recall is due to a fire hazard. When burned, the gel candle can melt the included plastic candleholders. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has received two reports of consumers claiming the plastic melted and started a fire. One incident resulted in substantial damage to a home and burns to a consumer's hands and feet, while the other caused minor damage to furniture.
