Plain-English summary
Kids II, of Alpharetta, Ga., is recalling approximately 99,000 "Soft Toy Bouncer Seats" and "Comfort Me Bouncers". The recall involves bouncer seats with semi-circular toy bars that can suddenly release from the seat, posing a risk of injury to babies. The affected seats were sold under the names "Soft Toy Bouncer Seat" or "Comfort Me Bouncer" and feature a ruffled seat pad in one of three patterns: black, white, and red cow print; teddy bear, rocking horse, and toy box print; or nursery rhyme print. The Kids II logo is embroidered on each seat's crotch strap.
The company has received 122 reports of toy bars suddenly releasing, resulting in 31 injuries to babies, including black eyes, scraped eyes, and facial cuts. These bouncer seats were sold in mass merchandise and juvenile specialty stores nationwide from October 1997 through April 2000 for approximately $25 to $35. The Comfort Me Bouncers feature vibration and soothing sounds, including music, waves, and heartbeat. Each semi-circular toy bar has three toys, and some recalled seats came with white toy bar tethers.
Consumers should immediately remove the semi-circular toy bars from the bouncer seats. The bouncer seat can continue to be used for the baby to sit in as long as the toy bar is removed. To obtain a free in-home repair kit, consumers should contact Kids II toll-free at (877) 325-7056 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday.
