Plain-English summary

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert for approximately 51 pounds of ready-to-eat Hawaiian-style summer sausage products. The alert was issued because the products may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically pieces of metal. The products were produced by Swiss Processing Plant, Inc. on November 18, 2021, and bear establishment number “EST. 2969.”

The affected product is an 8-oz. chub of RTE Swiss Meat & Sausage Co. HAWAIIAN STYLE SUMMER SAUSAGE with a “MADE ON” date of 111821. These items were sold in the Swiss Processing Plant, Inc. retail store and a local winery retailer in Hermann, Missouri. The issue was discovered when an employee noticed metal in a product purchased from the company store, prompting an investigation and notification to FSIS.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. FSIS issued the alert out of caution to ensure consumers are aware that the products should not be consumed. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
