Plain-English summary
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert for ready-to-eat salad products containing peanut butter that may be contaminated with Salmonella. The alert concerns 14.5-oz. plastic clamshell containers labeled “Super Asian Chicken Salad” with “Best Thru” dates ranging from 05/16 to 06/03. These products were produced between May 11, 2022, and May 23, 2022, and bear establishment number P-214 inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The issue was identified after the manufacturer, A G Specialty Foods, notified FSIS that the salad dressing component was formulated with peanut butter that had been voluntarily recalled by J.M. Smucker Company due to potential Salmonella contamination. The affected salad items were distributed to an Amazon Go retail location in Washington.
There have been no confirmed reports of illness or adverse reactions associated with the consumption of these products. However, consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, which typically results in diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. Older adults, infants, and persons with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for severe illness. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them and should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
