Epidemiologic and traceback investigations identified that ill people consumed Citterio Italian-style Salame Sticks produced by Euro Foods Inc. A formal recall was not requested because FSIS has not identified a specific contaminated lot, and it is believed that potentially affected products are no longer available for direct purchase by retail consumers.
Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, characterized by diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. Older adults, infants, and persons with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for severe illness. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them and should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
