The recall was initiated after the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) conducted intensified sampling at the establishment following an initial recall in July 2015. FSIS sampling revealed positive results matching the outbreak strain of Salmonella Enteritidis to Aspen Foods products. FSIS was notified of a cluster of Salmonella Enteritidis illnesses on June 23, 2015, and determined a link between the chicken products and the illness cluster. Five case-patients have been identified in Minnesota with illness onset dates ranging from May 9, 2015, to July 22, 2015.
Consumers are urged not to consume these products and should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. Although the products may appear cooked, they are uncooked (raw) and should be handled carefully to avoid cross-contamination. If cooking is chosen, the products must be prepared to an internal temperature of 165°F, checked at the center, thickest part, and surface.
