Nova Bus driver seat belt tension device may not disengage

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 4 covers structural vehicle defects: the source states the seat belt may fail to properly restrain the driver in a crash.

Plain-English summary

Nova Bus (US) Inc. is recalling certain 2016-2018, 2020 and 2022-2023 LFS and 2019-2020 LFS Artic transit buses. About 416 units are potentially affected.

The driver's seat belt tension-relieving device may fail to disengage without manual intervention. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection".

NHTSA states that failure of the tension-relieving device may prevent the seat belt from properly restraining the driver, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.

Nova Bus will remove the seat belt tension-relieving device, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 22, 2026. Owners may contact Nova Bus customer service at 1-450-472-6410, referencing recall number CR5873, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
