Kia K5 parking lights can flicker due to a software error
Kia is recalling certain 2025 K5 vehicles because a software error in the Power-net Domain Controller may cause the parking lights to flicker, failing FMVSS 108.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 3 covers risk-of-harm where injury has not yet been reported: the vehicle may be less visible to other road users, which is a collision pathway rather than a labelling error, and no incidents are recorded.
Plain-English summary
Kia America, Inc. is recalling certain 2025 K5 vehicles. About 82,281 units are potentially affected.
A software error in the Power-net Domain Controller may cause the parking lights to flicker. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment".
NHTSA states that parking lights that fail to illuminate properly can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
The controller software will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 24, 2025. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
