The rear axle drivetrain welds in certain 2024 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter vehicles may fail, causing loss of drive power and increasing the risk of a crash or vehicle rollaway.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: This recall addresses a structural vehicle defect—failing welds on the rear axle drivetrain—that creates a concrete risk of loss of drive power and vehicle rollaway, meeting the rubric criterion for Severe severity.

Plain-English summary

Daimler Vans USA, LLC is recalling certain 2024 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter vehicles due to a defect in the rear axle electric drivetrain. The welds on the helical gear within this component may fail.

If the welds fail, the vehicle will lose drive power. Loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the welds fail and the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle may roll away, which increases the risk of a crash or injury to occupants or others.

Owners should contact Daimler Vans USA customer service at 877-762-8267 to arrange a free repair. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning May 5, 2025.
