2021-2024 Nova Bus LFS Parking Brake Air Leak Recall

Nova Bus is recalling 2021-2024 LFS buses due to an air leak in the parking brake valve that can cause unexpected parking brake engagement without activating brake lights, increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a structural parking brake system defect that can cause unexpected vehicle stoppage without warning lights, creating increased crash risk. Although no injuries or deaths have been reported, the identified defect constitutes a significant safety hazard in a critical vehicle system.

Plain-English summary

Nova Bus (US) Inc. is recalling certain 2021-2024 LFS buses, including the LFS Artic model. An air leak may develop in the parking brake valve, potentially causing the parking brake to engage without the driver's input.

When the parking brake engages unexpectedly, the bus stops suddenly. The critical safety issue is that this unintended engagement occurs without activating the brake lights, leaving following drivers unaware that the bus is stopping. This creates an increased risk of a rear-end collision.

Approximately 900 buses are affected. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 24, 2024. Nova Bus will inspect and tighten the parking brake air line connections at no charge. Owners should contact Nova Bus customer service at 1-800-350-6682 (recall number CR5615) to arrange service.
