2024 Ford Escape Adaptive Cruise Control Radar Misalignment
Ford is recalling 2023-2024 Escape vehicles with adaptive cruise control due to misaligned radar modules. The misalignment can cause unexpected braking and loss of safety system function, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a known misalignment of a critical vehicle safety system (radar-based collision avoidance) that can cause unexpected vehicle behavior and loss of safety system function. While no injuries or crashes have been reported, the defect directly affects multiple interconnected safety systems and increases crash risk, meeting the rubric criterion for a risk-of-harm product without reported injury.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2023-2024 Ford Escape two-wheel drive vehicles equipped with adaptive cruise control. The cruise control radar module was misaligned during production.
The misalignment of the radar module can cause the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system to misclassify overhead objects as obstacles in the vehicle's path. This can result in the vehicle unexpectedly slowing or stopping. Additionally, other safety systems that depend on the radar module—including Pre-Collision Assist, Forward Collision Warning, and Auto Emergency Braking—could experience diminished or lost function. These conditions increase the risk of a crash.
The recall affects approximately 209 vehicles. Ford has mailed owner notification letters (dated July 3, 2024) and dealers will adjust the radar module angle free of charge. Owners should contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) for more information.
