Spartan Fire Recalls Emergency Vehicles Due to Parking Brake Defect

Spartan Fire is recalling 660 emergency vehicles because a parking brake defect may allow the vehicle to move unintentionally.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (unintentional vehicle movement) where injury has not yet been reported, fitting the High severity criteria.

Plain-English summary

Spartan Fire, LLC is recalling certain 2021-2024 Gladiator, Metro Star, 2022-2024 FC-94, 2022-2023 KME Panther, and 2023 KME Predator emergency vehicles. The recall affects 660 units in total.

A defect in the inversion valve may delay park brake engagement, which could allow the vehicle to move unintentionally. This issue causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 121, "Air Brake Systems." Unintentional vehicle movement can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Dealers will replace the inversion valve free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on November 2, 2023. Owners may contact Spartan Fire customer service at 1-800-867-6478 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
