Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer Recalled for Rearview Display Failure
Chrysler is recalling certain Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer models (2021–2024) due to a software issue that may prevent the rearview display from showing when backing up. This violates federal rear-visibility standards.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall addresses a safety-critical rear-visibility system regulated by federal motor vehicle safety standards. A software defect may completely disable the rearview display while backing up, creating genuine risk of collision. However, no injuries or crashes have been reported in the source text, limiting this to High severity rather than Severe.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain Jeep vehicles: the Grand Cherokee (2022–2023), the Grand Cherokee L (2021–2023), the Wagoneer (2022–2024), and the Grand Wagoneer (2022–2024). Approximately 162,713 vehicles are affected.
The Central Vision Park Assist Module (CVPAM) software may malfunction and prevent the rearview image from displaying when the vehicle is placed in reverse. This defect violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111, which requires rear visibility.
When the rearview display fails, the driver's visibility of the area behind the vehicle decreases, increasing the risk of injury or crash while backing up.
Owner notification letters were mailed on August 31, 2023. Dealerships will update the CVPAM software free of charge. Owners should contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403 to schedule service. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
