2019–2022 Land Rover Range Rover PHEV vehicles engine cooling system fire risk recall
Jaguar Land Rover is recalling 2019–2022 Range Rover PHEV and Range Rover Sport PHEV vehicles because a damaged drive belt can cause engine overheating, coolant leaks, and fire risk in the engine compartment.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm defect (engine fire risk) in a critical vehicle system. The source text does not report any injuries, deaths, or incidents; the hazard is theoretical. This meets the rubric criterion for High severity: risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC is recalling certain 2019–2021 Land Rover Range Rover PHEV and 2019–2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport PHEV vehicles. The water pump pulley drive belt may become damaged or detach, which can allow the engine to overheat. When an overheated engine ruptures the engine coolant elbow pipe, coolant can leak onto the turbocharger heat shield inside the engine compartment, increasing the risk of fire.
Dealers will replace the engine coolant elbow and the turbocharger feed coolant pipe at no cost. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 19, 2023. Owners should contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837 to schedule service. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov. Land Rover's recall number is N785.
