2019-2022 Land Rover Range Rover PHEV cooling system fire risk recall
Land Rover is recalling 2019-2022 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport PHEV vehicles. A faulty drive belt can cause engine overheat, coolant leak, and fire risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall describes a cooling system defect that can lead to coolant leaks onto a hot engine component, creating a fire hazard. While this is a serious mechanical defect, no injuries, illnesses, or property damage have been reported, fitting the criterion of risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Land Rover is recalling certain 2019-2021 Range Rover PHEV and 2019-2022 Range Rover Sport PHEV vehicles. Approximately 2,881 vehicles are affected. The water pump pulley drive belt in these vehicles may become damaged or detach.
If the drive belt detaches, the engine may overheat. This can rupture the engine coolant elbow pipe, allowing coolant to leak onto the turbocharger heat shield inside the engine compartment. Coolant leaking onto the turbocharger heat shield increases the risk of engine fire.
Land Rover notified owners by mail on May 19, 2023. Dealers will replace the engine coolant elbow and turbocharger feed coolant pipe free of charge. Owners can contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837 or NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. The NHTSA campaign number for this recall is 23V221000.
