What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall addresses a potential fire hazard from gas leaks in cooktop burners. No injuries or illnesses have been reported. Per the rubric, risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported are scored High (3).

Plain-English summary

Airstream, Inc. is recalling certain 2021-2023 Basecamp, Bambi, Atlas, and Interstate travel trailers that are equipped with SDS2 2-Burner Drop-in Cooktops. The internal aluminum burner tubes that connect to the gas valves may fracture.

When a burner tube fractures, it can cause a gas leak. If this occurs in the presence of an ignition source, it increases the risk of a fire.

Dealers will install a regulator support bracket at no charge. Owner notification letters were mailed starting April 29, 2023. Owners can contact Airstream Customer Service at 877-596-6111 (Travel Trailer ext. 7491, Touring Coach ext. 7401) to schedule service, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
