Travel trailers recalled for cooktop gas leak and fire risk
Airstream is recalling certain 2021-2022 travel trailers because cooktop burner control valves may become damaged and leak gas, creating a fire risk. Owners should contact dealers for free inspection and replacement.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported. The cooktop defect creates a potential fire hazard from gas leak, but no actual incidents or injuries are documented in the source material.
Plain-English summary
Airstream, Inc. is recalling certain 2021-2022 travel trailers equipped with 2-burner cooktops. The burner control valves on these cooktops may become damaged, causing a gas leak. A gas leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of fire.
The recall affects 2,856 units across multiple Airstream models, including the Basecamp, Bambi, Atlas, Interstate, and Interstate 19. Both 2021 and 2022 model year units are included.
Owners should contact Airstream customer service at 1-877-596-6505 or 1-937-596-6111 ext. 7401 or 7411. Dealers will inspect the cooktop and replace it if necessary, at no cost. Owner notification letters were mailed on October 7, 2022. For additional information, owners can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
