Autocar Recalls Trucks Due to Parking Brake Release Risk
Autocar is recalling specific trucks because a worn parking brake valve may cause the brake to release unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (parking brake failure) that creates a risk of a crash, which aligns with the rubric criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Autocar, LLC is recalling certain 2008-2020 Xpeditor, 2008-2010 WX and WXLL, 2012-2016 Xpert, and 2010-2020 Xspotter vehicles. The recall involves a defect in the parking brake control valve.
A worn parking brake control valve can leak air into the vent line, creating excessive back pressure that causes the parking brake to release unexpectedly. This unexpected release may allow the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will remove the vent line and fitting from the valve free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 23, 2023. Owners may contact Autocar customer service at 1-888-218-3611 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
