This defect causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 201, "Occupant Protection in Interior Impact."

A center console that opens during a crash can allow unsecured cargo to eject into the cabin, increasing the risk of injury. Owner notification letters were mailed on February 3, 2023.
