2023 Ford E-450 Rear Axle Rotor Bolts May Loosen, Causing Wheel Separation
Ford is recalling certain 2023 E-450 vehicles because rear axle rotor bolts may be improperly tightened, risking wheel separation and increasing crash risk. Dealers will replace affected assemblies at no charge.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a structural vehicle defect—improperly tightened rear axle bolts that can lead to wheel separation. Although no injuries have been reported, the defect directly increases the risk of a crash and meets the Severe criterion for structural vehicle defects.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2023 E-450 vehicles due to a defect in the rear axle assembly. The bolts that secure the rear axle rotor to the wheel hub may be improperly tightened, which can result in wheel separation from the vehicle.
Wheel separation significantly increases the risk of a crash. Approximately 596 vehicles are potentially affected by this defect. Ford began notifying vehicle owners in April 2023.
Owners should contact a Ford dealer to have the defect remedied. Dealers will inspect the rear axle serial number and examine the rotor and hub assembly. If any bolts are found to be loose, the entire rotor and hub assembly will be replaced at no charge to the owner. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) for more information.
