Jeep Wrangler Plug-In Hybrid Battery Fuse Defect Increases Crash Risk
Chrysler is recalling the 2022-2023 Jeep Wrangler PHEV for battery fuse defects caused by incorrect fasteners. The fuses can overheat and fail, causing loss of drive power and increasing the risk of a crash.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: NHTSA identified a vehicle electrical defect (incorrect fasteners on battery fuse) that can cause loss of drive power and increase crash risk. No injuries or property damage have been reported. Since the hazard is potential rather than realized, this receives a High rating.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2022 and 2023 Jeep Wrangler Plug-In Hybrid Electric (PHEV) vehicles due to a defect in the high-voltage (HV) battery pack assembly. The assembly was built with incorrect fasteners used to secure the 200-ampere fuse.
The incorrect fasteners can allow the fuse to generate excessive heat. This excessive heat can cause the fuse to fail, resulting in a loss of drive power. A loss of drive power while driving increases the risk of a vehicle crash.
This recall affects approximately 13,722 vehicles. Chrysler will notify owners by mail. Owners should contact their Jeep dealer to schedule a free inspection and replacement of the HV battery fuse and, if necessary, the battery assembly. Owners can also reach Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 for more information. The NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline is available at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), and additional information is available at www.nhtsa.gov.
