Ferrari Recalls Multiple Models Due to Brake Fluid Reservoir Cap Defect
Ferrari is recalling various models from 2005-2022 because a defective brake fluid reservoir cap may cause a leak, leading to partial or total loss of brake function.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (brake system) that can lead to a total loss of brake function, which significantly increases the risk of a crash.
Plain-English summary
Ferrari North America, Inc. is recalling certain 2005-2022 Ferrari vehicles, including the 430, 488 Pista, 612 Scaglietti, 812, F8 Spider, F8 Tributo, Roma, California, California T, F12 Berlinetta, F12 TDF, FF, GTC4Lusso, GTC4Lusso T, LaFerrari, LaFerrari Aperta, and Portofino. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recall number 21V-833.
The brake fluid reservoir cap may not vent properly, creating a vacuum inside the brake fluid reservoir. This condition can result in a brake fluid leak that may lead to a partial or total loss of brake function. A loss of brake function can increase the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the brake fluid reservoir cap and update the software to provide a new warning message for low brake fluid, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on September 22, 2022, and final owner notification letters were mailed on November 29, 2022. Owners may contact Ferrari customer service at 1-201-816-2668 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
