Plain-English summary

Blue Bird Body Company is recalling certain 2018-2022 All American and Vision school buses equipped with Cummins PD7000 Electric Drivetrains. The recall involves vehicles containing an electric air compressor where the housing is improperly grounded. This defect causes electrical voltage greater than 50V AC during operation.

The improperly grounded air compressor can cause electric shock, increasing the risk of injury. The affected vehicles include 2018-2019 Vision and All American models, as well as 2020-2022 Vision School Bus and All American School Bus models.

Dealers will install an electrical ground strap between the compressor motor housing and the vehicle chassis free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on February 6, 2023. Owners may contact Blue Bird's customer service at 1-478-822-2242 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
