Coachmen Freelander Motorhomes Recalled for Propane Valve Defect
Forest River is recalling certain Coachmen Freelander and other motorhomes due to improperly connected LPG service valves that can cause propane leaks and fire risk. Dealers will inspect and replace valves at no cost.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The source describes a defect in the LPG system (improperly connected service valves) that creates potential for propane leaks and fire. While this is a risk-of-harm scenario in motorhomes, no injuries, fires, or property damage are reported in the source. The potential hazard is real but unrealized.
Plain-English summary
Coachmen Freelander motorhomes from model years 2017, 2020, and 2021 are being recalled by Forest River, Inc., along with certain other motorhome models. The service valves on the LPG (propane) tanks may be improperly connected, which could cause a propane leak. In the presence of an ignition source, a propane leak can increase the risk of fire.
Owners of affected vehicles were notified by letter on August 2, 2022. The company is providing a free remedy: dealers will inspect and replace the service valves at no cost to the owner. Owners should contact Forest River customer service to schedule the repair at one of the following numbers: 1-574-262-3474 (Dynamax), 1-574-825-8212 (Sportscoach and Pursuit), or 1-574-825-8602 (Freelander).
