BMW Recalls 2019-2020 K 1600 Motorcycles for Rear Suspension Defect
BMW is recalling 2019-2020 K 1600 GT, GTL, and B motorcycles because a rear suspension link strut may be insufficiently strong, potentially affecting stability and increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (rear suspension link strut) that affects riding stability and control, increasing the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects.
Plain-English summary
BMW of North America, LLC is recalling certain 2019-2020 K 1600 GT, K 1600 GTL, and K 1600 B motorcycles. The recall involves 5,063 vehicles in the United States.
The link strut connecting the rear suspension to the frame may have insufficient strength, which can cause the component to become damaged. A damaged link strut can cause the rear of the motorcycle to contact the rear wheel, affecting riding stability and control, and increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the rear link strut free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on March 11, 2022, and final owner notification letters were mailed on June 21, 2022. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
