Goodyear Recalls Kelly Armorsteel Tires Due to Illegible Date Codes

Goodyear is recalling specific Kelly Armorsteel KDM I tires because the date code is illegible, which may prevent drivers from determining tire age.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (tires) where the defect increases the risk of a crash, but no specific injuries or fatalities have been reported in the source text.

Plain-English summary

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is recalling certain Kelly Armorsteel KDM I tires, size 11R22.5 with DOT date code 3419. The date code in the tire identification number (TIN) was incorrectly embossed on the tire, making it illegible. As a result, these tires fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 119, "New Pneumatic Tires-Other Than Passenger Cars."

An illegible date code may prevent drivers from determining the age of the tire. This could potentially result in prolonged usage of the tire, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the tires free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on July 15, 2022. Owners may contact Goodyear's customer service at 1-800-592-3267 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
