Plain-English summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC is recalling certain 2019, 2020, and 2021 Mercedes-Benz G550 and AMG G63 vehicles due to defective components within the rear door latches. Approximately 17,800 vehicles are affected by this recall.
The defective latch components may prevent the rear doors from latching or opening properly. As a result, a rear door may appear closed while the latch is not fully engaged, which can cause the door to open unexpectedly while the vehicle is driving. This creates a risk of injury to occupants and increases the risk of a crash. Additionally, damaged latch components may prevent the rear door from opening from inside the vehicle, which could trap occupants and increase the risk of injury.
Owners should contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 to schedule service. Dealers will replace the affected rear door latches free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 9, 2021. Vehicles that were repaired before this official recall was announced should return to dealers to have the remedy performed. For additional information, owners can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.safercar.gov.
