What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (sunroof glass detachment) that creates a road hazard and increases the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC is recalling certain 2006-2007 model year vehicles, including the C230, C280, C350, CLK350, CLK500, CLK550, E320, E350, E500, E550, CLS500, CLS550, and various AMG models. The recall affects 11,356 vehicles in total.

The defect involves the bonding between the sunroof glass panel and the sliding roof frame, which may deteriorate. This deterioration can cause the glass panel to detach from the vehicle. A detached glass panel can separate from the vehicle and become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect the glass panel bonding and replace the sliding roof, as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed on May 7, 2021.
