Autocar Xpeditor and Legend Vehicles Instrument Display May Hide Warning Lights
Certain 2019-2021 Autocar Xpeditor and 2021-2022 Legend vehicles with a 7-inch display may experience restarts that hide critical warning lights. Dealers will replace the display free of charge.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall addresses a safety-critical instrument cluster defect where essential warning lights may be hidden during display restarts, violating FMVSS 101 and increasing crash and injury risk. No reported illnesses or injuries yet, placing it at high-risk rather than severe.
Plain-English summary
Autocar, LLC is recalling certain 2019-2021 Autocar Xpeditor vehicles and 2021-2022 Legend vehicles equipped with a 7-inch MRS display. The display may restart during normal operation, which causes the dashboard warning lights to become invisible until the restart is complete.
When the display restarts, the following warning lights will not be visible: seat belt, low air pressure, check engine, ABS, park brake applied, turn signal indicator, fuel level, electrical charge, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. These are critical safety indicators that drivers depend on to know the status of their vehicle. This defect violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Control and Displays."
The potential consequence is that drivers will not see important warning lights during a display restart, increasing the risk of a crash or injury. Autocar will notify owners and replace the display free of charge. Interim notices were mailed on April 19, 2021. A second notice will be sent when the remedy becomes available in February 2022.
