Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect in critical safety fasteners that may result in loss of seat belt effectiveness and increased injury risk in a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Braun Ambulances is recalling certain 2019 and 2021 Crestline CCL150 Type III E-Series and 2019-2020 Crestline CCL150 Type I F-Series and CCL150 Type III G-Series ambulances. The recall involves 61 vehicles where two of the eight fastening points for the seat belt system in the patient compartment side-facing CPR seating position may be defective.
The defect occurs when two threaded inserts used for the rearward retractor and shoulder belt D-ring are installed too close to a mounting flange, resulting in improper crimping. This improper crimping may lead to partial or complete loss of effectiveness of the seat belt harness, increasing the risk of injury to the occupant in that seated position in the event of a crash.
Braun will notify owners, and dealers will inspect both seat belt anchor points. If no defect exists, no further action is required. If the defect is found, the dealer will replace the defective insert(s) with nut plate(s) free of charge. The recall began on March 1, 2021. Owners may contact Braun Ambulances customer service at 1-877-344-9990 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
