Braun Ambulances Recall 2020-2024 Models Due to Electrical Fire Risk
Braun Ambulances is recalling 628 emergency vehicles from 2020-2024 because a wiring defect could cause electrical circuits to overheat and start a fire.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (electrical wiring) that explicitly increases the risk of fire, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Braun Ambulances is recalling 628 specific emergency vehicles manufactured between 2020 and 2024. The affected models include the Chief XL Type I and III, Liberty Type I, Super Chief Type I, Signature Series Type I and III, Express Type III, and Express Plus Type I. These vehicles are equipped with Weldon 8X16 Input-Output nodes.
The recall is due to a defect in the electrical system wiring. In the event of a short circuit or wiring failure, the firmware in the node may fail to shut off the output pin. This malfunction can result in overloaded electrical circuits that overheat, increasing the risk of fire.
Owners of affected vehicles should contact Akron Brass customer service at 1-800-228-1161 or Braun customer service at 1-800-488-0359 to schedule a repair. Weldon will update the firmware free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on February 28, 2024. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
