Braun Ambulances Recall 2019 Models Due to Rear Brake Line Wear
Braun Ambulances is recalling 2019 Chief XL and Liberty ambulances because a rear brake line may wear, causing brake failure and increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect in the braking system that can lead to a complete loss of rear brakes and an increased risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Braun Ambulances is recalling certain 2019 Chief XL Type I and Liberty Type I ambulances built on Ram 4500 or 5500 chassis. These vehicles are equipped with Compressible Liquid Adaptive Suspension Systems (C.L.A.S.S.) and specific part numbers DS135RS3A, DS135RS3AF, or DS135RS3-DM.
The recall addresses a defect where the rear brake caliper flexible line may be routed in a way that causes it to contact a suspension component. This contact can lead to excessive wear on the line, potentially resulting in brake fluid leakage and a partial or complete loss of rear brakes, which increases the risk of a crash.
The recall began on July 21, 2020. Dealers will replace the rear brake caliper flexible lines and hardware free of charge. Owners may contact Braun at 1-877-344-9990 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
