Bridgestone Recalls Specific Tires Due to Sidewall Pinhole Defect
Bridgestone is recalling specific tire models with DOT code 2821 because a pinhole in the sidewall may cause slow air leaks, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural defect in tires that may lead to air loss and increased crash risk, which fits the rubric criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations is recalling certain Bridgestone and Firestone tires, including the Dueler H/L 422 Ecopia, Dueler H/L Alenza, Ecopia H/L 422 Plus, Turanza EL440, and Destination LE3 models. The recall affects tires with DOT code 2821 that may have been manufactured with a pinhole in the outboard side of the tire. This defect causes the tires to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 139.
The pinhole may cause the tires to slowly leak air. The continued loss of air may increase the risk of a vehicle crash. Owner notification letters were mailed on September 17, 2021.
Bridgestone will replace affected tires with a comparable Bridgestone or Firestone brand tire free of charge. Owners may contact BATO customer service at 1-800-847-3272 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
