Plain-English summary

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Accord Sedan, 2018-2020 Accord Hybrid, and 2019-2020 Insight vehicles. The recall involves approximately 737,233 vehicles.

A software error in the Body Control Module (BCM) may cause intermittent or continuous disruptions in communication with other vehicle components. This can result in malfunctions of systems including windshield wipers, defroster, rearview camera, exterior lights, audible warning of a stopped vehicle, and power windows. These malfunctions cause the vehicles to fail to comply with several Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), including those for windshield defrosting, rear visibility, and exterior lighting. Inoperative safety systems can increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will update the BCM software free of charge. The recall was expected to begin on February 22, 2021. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
