Renegade Motorhomes Recalled for Gas Leak Risk in Cooking Stove

What this means for you

Our assessment, not the agency’s: severity 3/5 (High).

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: This is a risk-of-harm product with no reported injuries or deaths. An LPG gas leak poses a serious fire hazard in a confined recreational vehicle space, meeting the criteria for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.

Plain-English summary

Kibbi, LLC is recalling certain 2019-2021 Renegade motorhomes equipped with Dometic 3-burner cooking stoves. The affected models include the Valencia, Verona, Verona LE, and Classic. The defect involves the stove's saddle valve securing bolt, which may be overtightened during manufacturing or installation.

An overtightened bolt can damage the O-ring seal, causing a continuous gas leak from the LPG system. A gas leak in a confined recreational vehicle space significantly increases the risk of fire.

Affected owners should contact Kibbi customer service at 1-574-966-0196 or visit the NHTSA website at www.safercar.gov for information about their specific vehicle. Dealers will install a remedy kit containing replacement gaskets, washers, thread locker bolts, and identification labels, free of charge. The recall began February 11, 2021.

Consumers may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) with questions or concerns.
