Forest River Recalls 2016 Amera-Lite Cargo Van Trailers for Drawbar Defect

Forest River is recalling 2016 Amera-Lite Cargo Van trailers because insufficient drawbar steel thickness may cause fractures, leading to loss of control or detachment.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (drawbar fracture) that can lead to loss of control or detachment, which aligns with the rubric criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Forest River, Inc. is recalling 2016 Amera-Lite Cargo Van trailers, model ALD612SA. The recall addresses a defect where the thickness of the steel tubes used to manufacture the trailer's drawbars may be insufficient for the vehicle's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR).

The defective drawbars can fracture and fail during operation. This failure can result in a loss of control or the trailer detaching from the tow vehicle, both of which increase the risk of a crash.

Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will install a double hollow tube to both drawbars free of charge. This recall began on July 28, 2020. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-848-1335 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
