Plain-English summary
Harbor Freight Tools is recalling pairs of Pittsburgh Automotive 3 Ton Heavy Duty Steel Jack Stands, part numbers 56371 and 61196. The recall affects approximately 1,254,000 units. The defect involves the ratchet teeth on the jack stand lifting extension post, which may not engage the pawl to a sufficient depth. This failure can cause the stand to drop suddenly under load, increasing the risk of injury to people near or under a lifted vehicle.
Owners are asked to immediately discontinue use of the jack stands for safety concerns. Harbor Freight will notify owners, and stores will provide a gift card equal to the shelf price of the jack stands in exchange for the return of the product. The recall began on May 18, 2020.
